Howdy! We started Coffin Creek Homestead with several ideas in mind for self sufficiency and the first step was to grow chickens. My love for silkies overtook and luckily for me, Robert supports my crazy ideas so here we are… Our goal is for our flock to be healthy, happy and constantly improving. We want our chickens to be just that, chickens. They can enjoy scratching the dirt even if that means us dealing with mud. Their runs and coops are surrounded by trees that help provide breeze and coverage. We do breed with SOP in mind, but we are not perfect, so we don’t expect our chickens to be. They are quirky, sassy and full of life. Between high protein feed, fruits, veggies and snacks I like to think they are quite spoiled. Besides silkies we have a crew of feral/barn cats, egg laying chickens for our use, 2 dogs, an inside cat and full time jobs that keep us busy.
